A Light in the Attic

Bibliographic Information: Silverstein, Shel. (2002) A Light in the Attic. New York, NY:  HarperCollins Children’s Books.

Brief Annotation: Another one of Shel Silverstein’s hilarious collections of poems. Many student’s parents likely grew up on these poems, and they remain timeless classics. These poems are about anything and everything, so there is not much of a plot.

Genre: Poetry

Grade Level: Grades K-8

Readers who will like this: These poems are good for students of all ages. The older students might appreciate the humor more.

Rating/Response: 9/10. I grew up on these poems, and I think Shel Silverstein is a funny, approachable poet who doesn’t try to confuse anyone with his poems.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: Have any of your parents ever read poetry to you? If so, what was your favorite poem?
