The Hardy Boys: The Tower Treasure

Bibliographic Information: Dixon, Franklin W. (1927) The Hardy Boys: The Tower Treasure. New York, NY:  Applewood Publishing.

Brief Annotation: In this first ever installment of the Hardy Boys collection, a dying criminal confesses that he left a stolen treasure within the towers of an abandoned mansion. When the authorities can’t find the treasure, they turn to the Hardy boys to crack the case.

Genre: Mystery

Grade Level: Grades 5-6

Readers who will like this: Students who are critical thinkers and problem solvers will love the mystery genre. Their parents and grandparents will also like that they are reading the timeless classics with which they grew up.

Rating/Response: 7/10. A classic, but the writing is dated and the plot was mildly predictable. I was able to figure out the mystery just over halfway through the book.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: What happens when the police can’t solve a crime? Where do they turn?
